Festival du Bois, Mackin Park, February 26 to March 1
“Get your French on” at this year’s Festival du Bois!
Every year, Coquitlam/Maillardville, the oldest and largest francophone community in BC, welcomes young and old to a celebration of traditional and world music, all with a French twist!
For the past 25 years, Festival du Bois, the largest and most attended francophone festival on the West Coast, has delivered great performances from Canada and beyond, while also, sharing the community’s joie de vivre, through great food and its unique hospitality. This event is produced by Société francophone de Maillardville, whose mandate is to promote and facilitate access to arts and culture in French, in Maillardville/Coquitlam and its region.

In this presentation, SFU Professors Kelleen Toohey and Diane Dagenais will demonstrate the use of Scribjab, a website and application for use in multilingual classrooms and with children (5 to 12 years old) in multilingual families. The website and application enable the web publishing of multilingual stories by providing tools for narration and illustration and for young writers’ interaction with one another through story writing.
Numeracy with TouchCounts

SFU professor Nathalie Sinclair, Canada Research Chair in Tangible Mathematics Learning, will present an app she has developed to enrich mathematical learning, both at the cognitive and affective levels. TouchCounts allows for mathematical exploration and creation while deeply engaging young children with mathematical concepts and practice.
The presentations, organized by the Office of Francophone and Francophile Affairs at Simon Fraser University in partnership with the Fédération des parents francophones de Colombie-Britannique are part of a series of conferences and events entitled Le printemps de la francophonie 2015 à SFU.
